You don't go to Forks, but you do end up in Forks because it's the only town out there (not counting the reservations) around Olympic National Park. It's faboo for restocking when you've been out hiking, or looking at a building when you've spent the last few days looking at nothing but trees, mountains, and ocean.Crissa wrote:There's not even tourism there. Who goes to see clearcuts?

My son makes me laugh. Maybe he'll make you laugh, too.
If you want to see the mountains, go via Port Angeles or one of the prettier towns on the south or east side of the mountains.
And you can't get to the ocean from there. The Quinaults forbid it, as do the even more remote tribes. (partially because they're not allowed to arrest white people).

North Beach High School, the Hyaks.
Yeah, I lived on the coast in Washington. My dad worked for the Quinault Indian tribe before they owned any forest land, then they gave him to the Department of the Interior Office of Self-Governance.
Anyhow, there's nothing in Forks of worth. I might want to live there, but the people who do live there probably shouldn't.

The Quillayute are the Native Americans by Forks. They hang out at La Push, and tourists are very welcome to scope the beaches there. Quinaults are closer to where you were - Ocean Shores.

I see why they do. In the formerly thriving lumber and fishing industries, Forks was perfect. And it's the only city along 101 for quite a ways, making it a base of operations for excursions out to the Hoh, Ozette, and other areas of that side of the park. But seriously... blink and you miss it.Crissa wrote:Anyhow, there's nothing in Forks of worth. I might want to live there, but the people who do live there probably shouldn't.

Yeah, that tribe gave me a commemorative pin for when my dad died last year. o-o A member of the tribe worked with him in his office down in Vancouver. He and his family are nice.

So I'm only into Midnight Sun a dozen pages or so, but the two pages in which Edward plans out how he's going to kill Bella and everyone in the classroom are just comedy gold.
